Holiday Spectacular // 2013 Mixtape

(Sadie from Speedy Ortiz, Ellen from Palehound, and Real Trap Rich)
(And Steve from Ovlov's belly)

The big "Holiday Spectacu-LARD" and 2013 Mixtape happened yesterday. It was a really long radio show, and probably the last one I'll be doing on WXCI for a while. Unfortunately, this also signals yet another hiatus for Late Night Noise... And this hiatus will likely be a lot longer than the previous ones. (The last Late Night Noise was November 25, 2013. late night noise summer shows

I haven't been able to DJ since 6 weeks ago, but some fellow WXCI buds have graciously offered their services to keep Late Night Noise happening throughout the summer. In fact, the show is on the air right now!

We should have a playlist up soon. In the meantime, listen in at WXCI.Org and on 91.7FM!

Monday, June 17, 2013

Hermann Scherchen "Il Cimento Dell'armonia e dell'inventione: L'Hiver, en fa mineur, RV 297"

some videos & soundcloud stuff // lame summer hiatus

Unexpected summer hiatus on the air. In the meantime...

Some sick jams:

thx curt for this:

For various reasons (including summer school, a busy work schedule, and the past several weeks of inadvertent restriction to WXCI's studio offices), Late Night Noise has been on hiatus for the past 4 Mondays, which was not planned at all.

In addition to this, there was a planned hiatus scheduled for all of July and the first 2 Mondays of August. However, instead of keeping the show off the airwaves entirely, we'll be doing our best to locate substitute DJs who might be able to fill in for us on Mondays over the summer, and we also might be able to plan out a few pre-recorded shows for the summer as well.

In the meantime, we'll do our best to maintain the blog.

Sick shows coming up this week

We don't normally do this, especially over the air since WXCI has bizarre and ever changing restrictions about "advertising" for upcoming shows. However, this blog is not broadcast over the air, and I'm pretty sure the staff of Late Night Noise is okay with personally endorsing two really huge shows coming to New Haven within the next week...

Monday March 25 at Fort Flesh:
Spelling Bee (from St Louis, MO)
Arvid Noe (from Boston, Mass)
2 Ton Bug (formerly from New Haven, now from Brooklyn, unless we're mistaken)
Old Man Lady Luck (from New Haven)
Tomb and Thirst (from New Haven)
...and featuring hosts and MC's Lowt Ide (described by at least 3 people as "the best thing to ever come out of Trumbull" which means that at least 3 people think Lowt Ide is better than The Vinnie Vincent Invasion)

Fort Flesh is quickly becoming one of the premiere house spaces in New Haven. (We were there a few weeks ago for Pile, Sperm Donor, Fax Holiday, Ovlov, Speedy Ortiz and Ports of Spain - possibly the best house show we've ever seen in New Haven.) Monday's event is taking place at the same time as the next edition of Late Night Noise, and so we've decided to broadcast from this event. If you can't make it out to the show, at least Late Night Noise will still be amazing, and we'll be playing songs from all the bands n stuff.

Also later next week...

Thursday March 28 at Elm Bar
Friend Collector (from Baltimore, Maryland)
Curse (from Baltimore, Maryland)
Shot In The Head (from New Haven)

Again, we don't normally endorse shows this much, but we'd be lying if we weren't pumped as fuck about this show coming to Connecticut... Check out music from any/all of these bands whenever you get a few minutes.

wtf there's a new arvid noe EP! we had no idea this happened until just now:

Check out Tomb & Thirst here : http://tombandthirst.tumblr.com/
also Lowt Ide:

OMG NEW FRIEND COLLECTOR!!! looks like this was just posted within the past week!

Yellow Loveless

In all the MBV-mbv hubbub, this other important release may have been missed.

Yellow Loveless is a My Bloody Valentine tribute in the form of a track-by-track cover of the album Loveless, which you may have heard of, by some stellar Japanese bands, such as Tokyo Shoegazer, Shonen Knife, and of course the mighty BORIS as seen below.  Look around for it I guess.
