whoawhoawhoa 8.25.14

We didn't get to speak about this on the air all that much, but they had the big "Drake Vs. Lil Wayne" celebration up in Mansfield this evening, and apparently Lil Wayne tied up their score with 6 wins a piece. Shocking!

Stop-the-press levels of urgency went down in the show's aftermath as the Boston Globe's review was posted almost immediately. (The show only ended something like 2 hours ago.) http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2014/08/25/lil-wayne-faces-off-against-drake-xfinity-center-rap-battle/q2e1VhLg9DFtyTXmaqqKwO/story.html

While this was all happening, we were hear kicking off the first "Top Ten Jams" show, preceded by an all-too-quick edition of '90s Mixtape and followed with yet another exciting Late Night Noise (which featured some of the songs that also got played last week for reasons that we'd rather not get into right now lol.)

big show 8.4.14

Jeff called in from Dodgers Stadium in LA to give us the good word on what's been going on with the LA Dodgers. Sharon called in also and we did the Problem Child 2 game to see which one of them had better knowledge in Problem Child 2. Sharon ultimately won the game after she was the first to score 5 points, vs. Jeff's 3 points.

I also played 10 of my favorite songs ever. They are listed below during the "rotation" portion of the show...

Beck "Outcome"
Nirvana "Paper Cuts"
Big Ups "Fresh Meat"
Pie "Our History"
Two Inch Astronaut "Spank Jail"

10. Mark Morrison "Return of the Mack"
9. No Age "Teen Creeps"
Emitt Rhodes "Fresh as a Daisy"
8. Wire "Outdoor Miner"

7. Radiohead "Paranoid Android"
Vertical Scratchers "Memory Shards"

6. TV On The Radio "Staring at the sun"
Modest Mouse "Trailer Trash"
Anika "Yang Yang"

Joanna Gruesome "Wussy Void"
5. Notorious BIG "Gimme The Loot"
4. The Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes For You"

3. Chris Bell "I Am The Cosmos"
Smashing Pumpkins "Obscured"
Green Day "Christie Road"
Pavement "Price Yeah"

2. Ghosttown DJs "My Boo"
Black Sabbath "Children of the Sea"
at.the.drive.in "Pattern Against User"
1. Aaliyah "One In A Million"

[note: The jams from at.the.drive.in, Trail of Dead and Beastie Boys were kinda last minute jams that I wanted to include as personal favorites because this is another one of those cases where I might not be live on the air again for a while. I'm normally not so self-indulgent, but the show before mine did a "favorite songs" show and there's a Thursday morning show kinda doing the same thing throughout the summer. So the 13 favorites played tonight were pretty much my 13 favorite songs. Kinda sorta. Unless I'm forgetting stuff, which is very possible.]
