Jay Reatard stuff

So as I imagine, everyone knows that Jay Reatard died yesterday. That's lame. I think we decided that we are doing a tribute show next week. We'll see where that goes. Hopefully we will have excerpts from all over his discography. Make sure and tune in.

There's jay there, in the back, on the drums.

And then there's this too.

So that's pretty good for now. Tune in on Monday

also beck is streaming a neat cover, by Jay, of one of beck's songs. Kinda neat.

UPDATE: Jay doing a Nirvana cover. I guess it was supposed to be on some tribute comp that's coming out. It's on his blog. You can download it.

Kana

thanks for everything cosmic hearse
This is just...well it's just incredible.

Jacked from the Village Voice Worst Songs of the Decade which I generally find no issue with, other than I think that some of them are a little bit unknown to be considered for the category. Also Who's Got The Crack has appeared in a lot of my playlists for WXCI. It also sucks.

Playlist January 10th 2010

So this evening/morning, as we promised last week, Mike and I played the worst songs of 2009. This list is mostly sourced from Mike's blog - Taste My Kids, along with one added by me, Fireflies by Owl City. We basically played these off their youtube videos and commented on them and told stories about the memories they dredged up and stuff. I'm sure it was compelling. At the end we created art by playing them all simultaneously. This was certainly compelling.

Mike and I agreed that it was probably the worst thing to ever be broadcast on the radio. Soon there will be a recording available for download.

As always (no) thanks for (not) listening!

Oh yeah, here is the actual playlist of songs we actually like from the evening.

Peter Grudzien – Hear the Trumpet Call
Homostupids – I Am the Hawk
Slavescene – Hold Me Nude
Slavescene – Invocation of My Retarded Brother
Wreck Small On Expensive Stereos – Why Do I Look At You That Way
Barn Owl – Procession of Golden Bones
Oneohtrix Point Never – Learning to Control Myself
Oneohtrix Point Never – Parallel Minds
Oneohtrix Point Never – Laser to Laser

In here is where we did our epic worst of. Hope you heard it.

Pavor – A Schizoid Uglifier
Andrew W.K. - Never Going To Bed
Andrew W.K. - Slam John Against A Brick Wall.

Andrew WK live confession

Andrew W.K. Q&A Coming soon

This story was copied from Punknews.Org.....

We've been watching this story develop over the last few weeks and are just as confused as you are. Exclaim is reporting on a video posted by the site RockFeedBack in which Andrew W.K. admits that he isn't the original performer. In the talk at London’s Madame JoJo’s club he states:

I’m not the guy you’ve seen from the I Get Wet album… I’m not that same person. I don’t just mean that in a philosophical or conceptual way. It’s not the same person at all...

Andrew WK was created, and this is a bit of a confession, by a large group of people, almost a conference of people, and we talked about how we could come up with something that would move people, that was done in the spirit of commerce, that was done in the spirit of entertainment… I am the next person who is playing Andrew WK.

This follows a set of defensive statements to the contrary on W.K.'s Twitter account over the last month. In response to the confusion, the Santos Party House in Manhattan, NY, which W.K. co-owns, has booked an event for February 23rd:

Due to an overwhelming amount of questions regarding his career, his past, and his future, Santos Party House co-owner, Andrew W.K., has decided to offer himself to the people of New York City, for an evening of totally open inquiry. This is a chance to ask Andrew anything, and he'll certainly do his best to answer everything. Have your questions in mind and come on down! This is a one-night-only event sure to get the PARTY going HARD!

Furthermore Andrew W.K. released a statement on his website yesterday that further addresses the controversy, although it does not directly contradict or confirm the statements made in London.
